The proverbial “gospel truth” when it comes to SEO is that things take time.
Most SEO experts would agree that you need to wait at least 3-6 months before you start seeing the full impact of the content & links you’re creating, today.
I’d argue that with Google’s rapidly improving “RankBrain” algorithm, which apparently updates the SERPs in realtime now, the time horizon is a bit less these days, but still – it doesn’t happen overnight.
But there is one exception – and it’s insanely powerful: Click-through rate (CTR) optimization.
Granted, this strategy requires some level of existing search presence – but it can have a significant impact on your search traffic (we’re talking anywhere from 20% – 100%+ increases!), and the results show up in 1-7 days.
That’s not a typo: You can legitimately lift your search traffic by as much as 100% or more, in less than a week.
Here’s the process in a nutshell…
- Connect your site to Google Search Console
- Figure out what keywords you’re already ranking for (between positions 1-10)
- Sort these rankings in descending order of impressions (search queries basically)
- Look for unusually low click volumes
This takes anywhere from 10 – 30 minutes depending on how much content your site has (pruning out page 2+ rankings, sorting stuff, etc)
You should end up with a list of pages that rank page 1, and are getting tons of impressions, but very low clicks.
In most cases, all it takes is literally adding the keyword to the page’s title tag (with natural language), to drastically increase CTRs from that existing ranking.
So for example, if you’re getting a 0.5% CTR from a #3 ranking for a keyword driving 50K impressions a month, that means you’re only seeing 250 visitors a month from that awesome ranking.
By simply tweaking the title tag of that page, and bringing CTR to your overall average (let’s say it’s 4%), you will see a 700% increase of traffic from that existing ranking.
So it will go from driving 250ish visitors a month, to approximately 2,000.
Not bad for a minute’s worth of work. Do this on even a few pages, and you can see how much of a massive impact this can make.
But it does require some legwork to get that data, and isolate what’s actually actionable.
That’s why we built an app that does everything I just described, and more, in approximately 5 seconds 🙂
Here’s how it works:
There’s actually two displays that we generate with SEO Prospector; CTR optimization for page 1 rankings, and low-hanging opportunities to nudge page-2 rankings up to page 1.
Here’s how the app helps with CTR Optimization:
Basically it entirely automates the above process, and runs some proprietary math on top of Google’s data.
For instance, we calculate your baseline CTR across all pages, the percentage difference of each ranking vs your median CTR… and other similar details that are really valuable at-a-glance.
We also scrape your page’s title & meta tags, so you can conveniently see why it might not be driving clicks like it should be.
And here’s how it displays your lowest-hanging SEO opportunities:
It’s a lot easier to move a page that ranks in position #13 (page 2) to Google’s first page… vs one that’s 10+ pages deep.
So what we’ve done is crunched all of your data to show you all of your rankings positioned between 11-20, in descending order of actual search impressions (for the keyword) over the last 30 days.
You can also scan selected keywords for competitive data (like estimated CPC), to see which ones would have the juiciest ROI on time & effort.

This is our tutorial video, but it gives you a pretty good idea of how the app works…

Does this work on new / unestablished sites with little organic traffic?
Basically SEO Prospector will help you quickly amplify your existing presence.
So if your existing search presence is “zero”, then things like publishing content & getting links are prerequisite – but – that said, using SEO Prospector in tandem with your initial push, you’ll have a lot more insight into what’s actually worth pursuing as far as keyword targets, and you’ll get a much more transparent view of how much search traffic is really up for grabs.
This one’s a bit of a no-brainer, in my opinion 🙂
See you on the inside,
